Bold & Glow in 8 weeks (LIMITED SPOTS)

Peninsula Art Society, Frankston

Bold & Glow is an 8-week studio curriculum designed to develop the essential skills behind expressive watercolour painting, from seeing and simplifying a subject to managing wetness, colour, edges, brushwork, light and atmosphere. Instead of treating watercolor as “one skill,” we break it into distinct, learnable parts. These micro-skills are taught through

  • Live demonstrations

  • Guided paint-along sessions

  • Personalised one-on-one feedback.

  • Review & Reflect as a group

8 Sessions

Oct 6, 23, 20 | Nov 3, 10, 17, 24 | Dec 1

Option 1 — Bold & Glow Immersive

Choose one session and work with the same group over eight Tuesdays.

Afternoon
12:30–3:30pm
3 hours × 8 Tuesdays
$460
10 spots

OR

Evening
6:30–9:00pm
2.5 hours × 8 Tuesdays
$430
10 spots

Each week includes demonstration, guided painting, individual feedback and practice exercises between sessions. The eight-week format gives us something a weekend workshop cannot: time to paint in class, practice on our own, receive feedback on it and build on what we learned the previous week.

Immersive is for you if:

  • You've attended short format workshops and wish there was more time to unpack concepts and practice hands on skills.

  • You want to spend enough time on the key fundamentals rather than trying to absorb everything in over weekend.

  • You want continuity, practice and feedback.

  • You have limited time and can only commit to 2.5–3 hour session each week.

Option 2 — Bold & Glow Intensive

12:30–3:30 & 6:30–9:00pm each Tuesday
Both afternoon + evening sessions
$890
5 spots only

The Intensive is designed to recreate some of the depth of my week-long painting retreats overseas in a local studio setting. You'll attend both sessions every Tuesday, working on two different paintings exploring the week's concepts. Because those eight studio days are spread across eight weeks rather than compressed into a single week like an art retreat, you have something particularly valuable: time between each week to practice. You'll also have a weekly practice assignment, feedback on that work when you return, and the option to develop personal painting projects.

Intensive is for you if:

  • You've been painting in watercolour for a while and know this is the medium for you.

  • You've taken workshops and classes but feel your progress has hit a plateau.

  • You know many of the concepts, but haven't spent enough time with them for them to really sink in.

  • You're ready to give your practice more dedicated time and attention.

  • Want to develop a few personal projects over the eight weeks.

We will cover:

Seeing & Design

  • Big shapes, placement, horizon, focal point

  • Simplifying complex scenes

  • What to leave out

Value & Tone in Watercolour

  • Organising the painting through light, mid, dark

  • Learning tonal hierarchies

  • Painting the strong colours of twilight without losing subtlety

Colour Harmony & Temperature

  • Learn the foundations of the color wheel

  • Explore warm vs. cool temperature relationships

  • Discover harmonious color combinations

  • Use limited palettes to create more colours

  • Practice mixing neutrals for subtlety and softness

  • Build your core “color vocabulary” for the rest of the course

Drawing & Simplification

  • Proportion and perspective (light-touch)

  • Contour and big-shape accuracy

  • Using drawing as a guide, not a foundation.

Water Control

  • Timing (wet, damp, dry)

  • Types of washes: flat, graded, variegated

  • Colour Consistency: tea / milk / cream / butter

Brushwork & Edges

  • Calligraphic & expressive strokes

  • Edge control: soft, lost, hard

Bringing Colour & Light Together

  • Use warm–cool contrast to create radiance and depth

  • Learn how grays add atmosphere and mood

  • Blend colours to create luminous transitions

  • Combine neutrals and saturated hues for balance

  • Apply temperature shifts to evoke twilight & daylight

  • Create paintings that GLOW, where colour and light work together, something more than just pigment on paper.
